How do I use my Winkeo key or Badgeo card?

How to set it up to log in without a password (FIDO2)?

1. I create my passkey

Before using your device, the Winkeo key or the Badgeo card, you must first create a passkey on the desired online service. You then save the passkey to your device. The configuration process must be completed for each service you want to protect. It is defined by the service provider and may vary slightly from site to site.

  1. Access your accountthen go to settings, select Security.
  2. Click on Passkeys and security keys (generally under the “Two-step validation” which will have been previously activated), then at the bottom of the page on Create a passkey (ignore the message “A passkey can't be created on this device").

By creating a passkey, you choose to use it as a priority to connect without a password.

2. I save the passkey on my Winkeo key or my Badgeo card

Ignore the “Unable to create a passkey on this device” message, in this case on your computer. At the bottom of the window, click on Use another device, which will be your Winkeo USB security key or your Badgeo smart card.

How do I set up my security key or smart card for two-factor authentication (FIDO U2F)?

Make sure you have activated Two-Step Verification first.

Many large companies such as Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Google, PayPal, TikTok, WhatsApp and GitHub have integrated Passkeys technology into their platforms. However, some have not yet done so. In this case, we advise you to set up double authentication using the Winkeo security key or the Badgeo smart card for maximum security. Indeed, a hacker would not only have to know your login details but also have your Winkeo security key or your Badgeo smart card to be able to access your account. Double authentication is based on the FIDO U2F protocol.

The configuration process must be completed for each service you want to protect. It is defined by the service provider and may vary slightly from one site to another.

1 I register my security key or my Badgeo card as a second authentication factor

  1. Access your accountthen go to settings, select Security.
  2. Click on Two-factor authentication, then check Security key.
  3. Follow the instructions on the windows/pop-ups that appear on the screen or at the bottom of the page in the taskbar.

Some services will ask you to create a PIN.

2 For all future connections

  1. Enter your login credentials
  2. Insert your Winkeo security key into your device or swipe your Badgeo card on your computer or on the back of your smartphone
  3. Enter your PIN code
  4. For the Winkeo security key, you will be asked to touch the golden button on the key
